Disney's NEWSIES JR.

Auditions: Coming Soon

Show Dates: Fall 2026

Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.

When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys' expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what's right.

Including the now-classic songs "Carrying the Banner," "Seize the Day," and "Santa Fe," Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.

DANCE/MOVEMENT AUDITION TIPS

Get ready to move and groove!

Here’s how to make the most of your dance audition:

  • The choreographer will teach a short combo in small groups—so pay close attention and stay focused!

  • Bring your dance shoes if you’ve got them  - ballet, jazz, or character shoes are all welcome.

  • Be ready to learn fast and try your best—no one expects perfection, but we love to see determination!

  • Energy and expression matter more than fancy footwork. Show us your spark!

  • Keep movements clean and controlled—even if you’re not a trained dancer, confidence and clarity go a long way.

  • Stay in character! Musical theater dancing isn’t just about steps—it’s about storytelling.

  • Use your face! Facial expressions can sell a moment just as much as your feet can.

  • Mess up? No problem. Keep going, smile big, and own it. Recovery with style is a superpower.

  • A great attitude stands out. Be enthusiastic, be kind, and work hard. Directors notice!

VOCAL
AUDITION TIPS

Time to wow us with your voice!

Here’s how to bring the house down:

  • Choose a song that fits your voice and shows off your strengths.

  • Enunciate clearly—we want to hear every word of your story.

  • Don’t just sing—act while you sing! Feel the emotion and let it shine through.

  • Warm up before you arrive. A happy voice is a healthy voice!

  • Start strong and finish strong—those are the moments that stick in our memory.

  • Make eye contact with the panel (or just above their heads)—never with the floor.

  • Most importantly: HAVE FUN. Be yourself. Show us your joy, your passion, and your personality!

CASTING

Casting a show is a lot like putting together a giant, colorful jigsaw puzzle. Every piece matters, and each one needs to fit just right to complete the big picture.

If you didn’t land the exact role you had your heart set on, please know this:
It’s not a reflection of your talent or your audition. You may have given a fantastic performance—but maybe the puzzle needed a different shape for that particular piece this time.

Sometimes it comes down to things beyond your control:
Too tall, too short, too young, too mature, too sweet, too spooky, voice too high, voice too low—you get the idea!

If you were hoping for one role and ended up with another, trust that you were placed where the directors need your sparkle the most. Every role is chosen with care, and every part is important.

Remember:
The ENSEMBLE is a role.
Being in a show is being on a team.

And on this stage, every player is essential. We can’t build this world without you!

To quote one of our favorite mottos:

“There are no small parts... only small actors!”
