Wild Horse Theater's Acting Academy offers classes and workshops which encourage confidence by building theater skills in a fun, engaging environment. Even more importantly, students learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, creativity, imagination, public speaking, problem solving, playfulness and responsibility - all in an atmosphere where it is safe to take creative risks and easy to make new friends.

Nick Tickle, Fairy Tale Detective

Join us for this interactive mystery!  Jack’s magic beans have vanished! Cinderella’s slipper has disappeared! Throughout Fairy Tale Forest vital pieces of treasured tales have gone missing and unless they turn up soon, the stories themselves will be lost forever! Time to call in Nick Tickle, Fairy Tale Detective. Join in the fun as Nick navigates the caper of a lifetime, complete with tantalizing twists, crazy characters, hilarious hi-jinx, and a surprise ending that will shock even the most seasoned of sleuths. Nick depends upon his audience of junior detectives to point out clues, deliver messages, and even watch his back when things get a little rough. Puppetry, magic, slapstick comedy, and audience participation are sure to entertain the young and the young-at-heart. Nick Tickle, Fairy Tale Detective is sure to have you “cracking up” as he cracks the case. 

Camp will work on acting & performance skills, theater games, teamwork, making props & the set, costumes, hair & makeup, lighting & sound effects.  This show will perform one weekend at the Children's Museum and also at Artown in Reno.


Funny Just Happens: IMPROV for everyone
Instructor: Jonathon Josten
Workshop Dates: August 9-21 (Mon-Thurs for 2 weeks with combined shows Friday & Saturday, August 20 & 21 at 7 pm)

Ages 10-14
4-6 pm
Cost: $100
This workshop is framed to be an introductory course into the initial principles and rules of improvisation. We will work on beginning games, scene work, character play, and lay the groundwork for sketch comedy.

Ages 15-adult
6:30-8:30 pm
Cost:  $100
A quick run through of initial rules and beginning games and move on to more advanced games. We will investigate long form improv, two person, sketch, scene work and other facets of improvisation.


C’mon now, work with me here…A Workshop in Ensemble Acting for Adults
Instructor: D. Davis,Ph.D.
Workshop Dates: Saturday, August 21 9am-4:30pm

Objective: To teach the skills and techniques of ensemble acting
Purpose: Actors can expand their acting skills by learning new ensemble acting techniques to produce their best performance possible.
Premise and Purpose:
Unless you’re in a one-person show, you are ALWAYS performing with others. The more skills you have in ensemble acting, the better the quality of performance.

This workshop proposes to enhance an actor’s skills and learn new techniques of ensemble acting. This one-day workshop is specifically designed to offer adult actors the opportunity to expand their acting skills and abilities to enhance their performances.

Activities: group physical and vocal exercises and reading group scenes

Requirements:

bring your own lunch—beverages provided

Workshop Guide: D. Davis, Ph.D.
Dr. Davis is a veteran and accomplished actor, director and acting teacher. Performance highlights include Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding (year and a half), The Merry Wives, Electra, Nunsense, The Rose Tattoo, Broadway Bound and Angry Housewives. She has directed Knock Knock, Measure for Measure, Miracle Worker, Much Ado and more. DDavis would like to share her wealth of information and experience with all those who want to improve their ensemble acting skills and techniques.

Wild Horse Children’s Theater looking for actors, singers and dancers, ages 5 to 18, for our winter  production of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Jr., directed by Carol Scott, musical directed by Alan Catron, choreographed by Robin Kato, and produced by Pat Josten.

Auditions will be held Thursday, September 16 from 4-7 pm and Saturday, September 18 from 1-4 pm at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada.  Callbacks are Sunday, September 19 at 1 pm.  Auditions are by appointment only!  You must call for an audition slot. 

Those auditioning should prepare a short (1 minute or less) song with accompaniment on tape, IPod, or CD that showcases your vocal ability.  A selection from a Broadway show is preferable.  (No background vocals, please!  We want to hear what YOU can do!)   You will also be taught a dance.  Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes and plan to arrive promptly to be photographed and fill out forms, including parental consent forms.

Join Alice's madcap adventures in Wonderland as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game! Roles are plentiful, including three Cheshire Cats and dozens of other wonderfully wacky characters. This fast-paced stage adaptation of Alice in Wonderland features updated dialogue and new arrangements of such classic Disney songs as "I'm Late," "The Un-birthday Song" and "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah."

Performances will be weekends December 3-18, 2010 at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. Rehearsals will be held Wednesdays & Thursdays from 4-15-6:30 pm. Everyone that auditions will be cast in the show.  Cast members will get a full rehearsal schedule at the first rehearsal.  Not everyone will be required to be at every rehearsal.  Frequency of rehearsals and specific time commitment varies with each role but those auditioning will be asked to list any rehearsal conflicts so please bring your calendars.   

Tuition cost is $100 per child. Scholarships are available, please inquire.
